Just a little reminder over the festive season in case you thought that this was now a perfect opportunity to let yourself ‘off the hook’. In our article about the critical things you need to know about food we talk about the kinds of dangerous substitutes our convenience food has in it and simple sugars are amongst the most prominent. Found in just about all the junk we consume – the easily accessible and cheap food – on a daily basis it is simple sugars that have a direct effect on the increase in potential obesity.
The reason is fairly simple – over time our bodies have become addicted to these simple sugars found in, but by no means limited to, sweets and sodas. ‘Tis the season to over-indulge and we can all worry about the consequences next year right? The problem is the risk you face of not being able to wean your body off this ‘drug’ and the more you consume and the more often you consume, the more difficult it is going to become to fight the sugar urges your body will crave.
But don’t just take our word for it. Healthymindset have written all about the addictive nature of simple sugars – “Speaking in general terms, foods that have added sugars usually have very little nutritional value to people, and are often packed with calories – which to their misfortune and to our regret, adds to the world wide obesity problem on a daily basis….”

This is great. I’ve been slowly weening myself off of processed sugar over the last month or so and – apart from a little set back over the Christmas period (Ahem…) – I should be sugar free by Jan 1st.
Just by cutting soda from my diet, I last at least an inch from my waistline, and my energy levels are so much higher – none of that “crash” after the boost. Cutting sugar may be an effort, but it’s one worth making.
First step is being aware that you have to do something and brilliant for having given it a start in the holidays – well done!
Definitely cutting down and then cutting out soda completely is a perfect place to start.
Hope you can inspire more people to take your lead.
Take care
Thanks for the support Emil. I’ll definitely be adding your blog to my links and sending people here. It’s a great resource.
